Traditional espresso machines originate in Italy in the 1920’s and their use of pressure is the key to extraction whereby the rich flavours of finely-ground coffee is pulled out of the espresso-roast coffee beans. We offer a wide range of traditional coffee machines that are well priced with UK-wide service back up and barista training.
From a compact 2 group model with lowered drip tray that is ideal for a sandwich bar or pub to a full-size 3 group Synchro espresso machine for a busy student coffee bar at a University.
How does a traditional espresso machine work?
A traditional espresso machine works by pumping hot water through the bed of espresso (fine) ground coffee in a ‘group handle’ at a very high pressure of around 9 bar or 150 pounds per square inch in order to extract a very intense and aromatic cup of espresso – this is the basis of the modern speciality coffee drinks line-up.
Making a cappuccino, latte or flat white involves heating and foaming milk (Caffia recommend semi-skimmed milk) with a cappuccino having more tiny air bubbles as foam on the top than latte – this is generally done with one of the machine steam arms and via careful control of the steam valve – there’s a great deal of steam in the boiler so be careful and don’t panic!
Caffia Coffee Group offer a full range of catering coffee machines for cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels and foodservice including superautomatic bean-to-cup machines from Franke, La Cimbali and Jura and also full training, 3M water filters and Urnex cleaning materials.
